Wednesday, May 22 - Chambok

Dear Menlo,

Connectivity is not great at Chambok. Here is an update from Tanya and Tom:

We arrived in Phnom Penh Airport and had no trouble getting visas on arrival. The bus ride took about 2.5 hours and we encountered a holiday parade for Buddha day and a short heavy rainfall. When we arrived at Chambok we were greeted with a nice dinner and then off to bed, under mosquito nets, in houses with groups of four or five students and a leader or two.

We officially made it to our final day in Cambodia! We met up a little later   after our very long and activity-filled day with the temples and the circus. We got back to morning meditation, health check-in, and the way of the day. Today was a big transference day. We mainly reflected on all of the places we have been and everything we have experienced and learned, bringing significance to the trip as a whole. We got into groups of four, each group creating a poster of one of the places we have traveled to. We covered everything in Chambok National Park, Phnom Penh, Koh Pdao, and Siem Reap. After sharing, we grouped up in a circle and passed a big ball of crumpled papers around while Mony simultaneously is telling us a story of tourists (our group) traveling through Cambodia, and every time he mentioned one of the four cities we visited, the person holding the paper ball would take one piece of paper off the ball. Cambodia - Information on Return (Saturday, June 8) and Re-Entry (Sunday, June 9)

Parents, Menlo Abroad will soon be coming home. I know the students are looking forward to seeing you as much as you are looking forward to seeing them. They have had unique and powerful experiences in the last three weeks and will no doubt have much to share with you, although they will need a good night's sleep first! Wednesday, June 5 Siem Reap

  Today was our first day in Siem Reap! We started our day a little earlier than usual (in preparation for our 5am start tomorrow to see Angkor Wat) and following our morning check in we enjoyed breakfast at the retreat center (our first taste of Nutella in weeks!) Then we got to take our final language lesson with “Professor” Pum before boarding tuktuks to the PEPY learning center. At PEPY, we met 25 Cambodian students around our age. We participated in a handful of activities where we got to practice our Khmer as well as help them practice their English. We also learned a few Khmer dances, and did the Macarena and chicken dance with the students.  We then boarded the tuk tuks again to the old town market, where we had around 45 minutes to grab lunch with our new friends and get to know them.
